Summer heat has arrived! Provide plenty of shade and
cool water for your horses. Go riding early or late in the
day to avoid the sizzling sun. Allow plenty of time to
cool your horse down properly after riding.

Amy, Technician
 | Amy has worked at Oakwood since '99. She was raised in the country outside a small Illinois town, which fostered her love of animals. As a child she showed dogs in 4-H, rode horses on trail rides, and played basketball. "We always had cattle growing up, so being a little girl at home with her mother all day, I was the one that got stuck helping doctor sick cattle." She still retains a clear passion for animals, even as an adult. "I enjoy helping animals everyday. The feeling you get knowing you saved an animal's life is irreplaceable." She currently lives on a farm with 3 dogs, 2 horses, 3 indoor cats and many barn kitties. She enjoys running with her dogs and competing with her horses in Cowboy Mounted Shooting. |
Danielle, Technician
| Danielle has been with Oakwood since November '04. She began as a Kennel Technician while still in high school and has advanced to Veterinary Technician. She is currently attending Augustana College for a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. She has a cat, an iguana, and four German Shepherd Dogs. "I love being part of the veterinary field because I get to help people and their pets live better, longer lives together." She enjoys movies, music, spending time with friends and family, and caring for her pets as well as those of clients. |  |
Julie, Technician
 | Julie is a native of the area and has worked at Oakwood since '95. A lifelong lover of animals, she has previously owned horses, and currently owns a German Shepherd Dog and 4 cats. "I find that animals are great stress relievers." In her time off she enjoys bowling and working on her drag-racing Mustang. |
Leslie, Technician
| Leslie has been at Oakwood since '02. She has always had a passion for horses, and has shown in barrel racing, pole bending, western pleasure, halter and long line classes. Her memberships in the International Buckskin Horse Assn. and the American Quarter Horse Assn. have enabled her to show all around the Midwest. She obtained an Associates degree in Accounting, yet her love of animals led her to a position in the Veterinary field. "I love the work and look forward to each day, knowing animals will be better with our care. I enjoy every aspect of my career and am honored to work with our exceptional staff." |  |
Nandry, Technician
 | Nandry, "Nan," has worked at Oakwood since January '06. Some of her duties include taking x-rays, drawing blood samples, and filling prescriptions. "I love working with animals, except when they don't like me." In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors, scrapbooking, and hanging with her family, including her senior half-black Lab, half-Dalmatian named Tippy. |
Tara, Technician
| Tara has been employed at Oakwood since May '96. She has had a lifetime of experience with animals, having always been surrounded by them. She holds degrees in Equestrian Science and Horse Science. She enjoys training and competing with her horses in barrel racing, an interest she shares with her three children and extended family. Her experiences with dogs include obedience trials and agility training. "I have always loved and been surrounded by animals of all kinds." |  |
Kerri, Office Manager
 | Kerri is a native of the Quad Cities with experiences with a wide variety of animals. Her duties include managing the reception area and making sure clients are comfortable and well taken care of. "My favorite thing about working at Oakwood is meeting new people. I truly enjoy making sure our clients get the help they need." Her hobbies include spending time with the animals on her farm, and competing with her Cardigan Welsh Corgis in conformation and herding events. |
Chris, Receptionist
| Chris is the clinic's newest addition, beginning in August '07. She is a native of the area with 14 years previous veterinary receptionist experience. Her household consists of 3 dogs and 3 cats. "I love the critters!" In her spare time, she enjoys boating, swimming, and spending time with her 6 grandchildren. "I can already see that I am going to enjoy the people at Oakwood as they are truly a sincere, caring staff." |  |
Judy, Receptionist
 | Judy has been with Oakwood since '04. Her true passion is riding horses. She has been riding horses for 30 years, with her main discipline being Dressage. She has enjoyed many horse events, including recently trying her hand at Cowboy Mounted Shooting. She enjoys spending time with her children, Jody and Michael, and her husband Dan. "I enjoy the animals and clients that come to Oakwood Vet Service." |
Brittany, Animal Care
| Brittany has been at Oakwood since '06. As a kennel tech, her duties include walking dogs, cleaning the kennels, and doing occasional medical assistance. "I really love working here with all the animals. It's a great experience working with the veterinarians and learning new things." She has a Siamese kitten named Trouble and a four-year-old Sheltie named Missy. She is an avid book reader and enjoys attending church. |  |
Cassie, Animal Care
 | Cassie began working at Oakwood in April '07 as a Kennel Tech. She and her family have horses, dogs, cats, a rabbit, and a donkey. She loves all types of animals from reptiles and snakes to large mammals. She fondly recalls once having the opportunity to hold a lion cub. "The experiences of learning about various diseases and injuries that can occur have helped me and, I'm sure, will continue to help me as I take Anatomy, Physiology, and Pre-Vet courses." She is a junior in high school and is involved in FFA, 4-H, and the Rock Island County 4-H Horse Bowl team. "I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many animals at the clinic to enhance my experiences with animals as a whole, and with the animals I've had and worked with my whole life." |
